This article will walk you through setting up the Active Directory Role on a Windows Server 2012. Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) has been a staple of Windows-based networks since Microsoft integrated it into Windows 2000 Server. AD is based on the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), and it provides authentication, authorization, and accounting capabilities on a network. AD DS (Active Directory Domain Services) is a directory service that enables administrators to create organizational divisions called domains.
Install Active Directory
01. Open the Server Manager from the taskbar.
In the Server Manager Dashboard, Click Add roles and features.
Click the Next Button to start the Active Directory Installation.
Select the installation types, you can install roles and features on a running physical computer or Virtual machine, or on an offline Virtual hard disk.
Select Role-based or Feature-based installation from the local machine. Then Click the Next Button.
Select The server, Then Next
When you Select the Active Directory Domain Services, This message comes mean (AD DS) required the Listed Features, click the Add Features
Then Click the Next
Display all r0les and Features, which install. Click the Next
Confirmation, click On Install
Successfully installed Active Directory Domain Services. Click on Close
Configure Active Directory
Select the Forest functional level and Domain functional level. after type Active Directory Domain Services password, click on Next to Run.
NetBIOS domain name, Click Next to start
Default location of database folder, log files, SYSVOL folder. Click Next to Jump farward
Details of the selected feature, Click Next to Run
