In this post, I will discuss why RODC holds a read-only copy of AD database and why we need it in the enterprise network? Read-Only Domain Controller or RODC is a type of domain controller which holds a read-only copy of active directory database.

  • Installation is like normal. Especially the Add roles.
  • The first server enters the Active Directory users and computersenvironment.
  • Right-click on the Domain Controller account and select the Pre-create Read-only Domain Controller account .
  • In the opened wizard, we enter the computer name of the second server exactly.
  • Check the DNS Server to disable (if the network is enabled clients to a new DNS server to the DNS server built to help)
  • Uncheck Global Catalog.
  • Return to the second server and follow the normal steps.

  • If you select the Reinstal this domain controller option, at the end of the error you will receive that the server (second server) can only be connected as Read Only. So we choose the first option.
  • Consider a password for DSRM

  • Finally, restart the server
